The current state of things has had me inspired to really lean into all that my home waters in Southern California have to offer. I’ve lived here and fished these waters all of my life and my close proximity to so many fisheries is something that I have always loved about living here. Every season offers so many angling opportunities and our weather here is mild enough to where we can spend most of the year on the water. The only thing that I see that has made things challenging for many is the ability to safely access fish-able water. The pandemic has inspired many people to seek the outdoors and needed respite from their new lives indoors. I could not have been asked to join the Scout Inflatables team at a better time.

What is the scout? The Scout is an inflatable boat that lands somewhere between a boat and kayak. with a flat bottom, an inflatable deck and 2 large pontoons and it can be powered by a gas or an electric motor. It is stable enough to stand and fly cast all day. I can launch from most beaches and any public launch ramp without a trailer. I often take 2 boats, motors, fishing gear and lunch and it all fits in the back of my Honda CRV. The best part in these times is that I can safely fish by myself or even with my friends who are also on Scouts or Kayaks. With a 12 or 14 foot scout, social distancing is built in and you can access water that most folks can’t unless they have a boat. The Scout has allowed me to stay on the water every week and keep my distance from crowds. Ive been fishing lakes, bays and even offshore at Dana Point and Lajolla.
